End of Year roundup

Yup, its that time of the year again – when we recall all the library books so we can account for them, clean them, mend them and see what we’ve got (or sadly not got). Already got a list started of new books to purchase next year, with some great ones ‘in the cupboard’ ready to come out first thing! These include “Inheritance” Christopher Paolini’s final book in the series, “Muse” Rebecca Lim’s latest, “Bloodlines” Richelle Meads new one, “Crossed” Ally Condie, Vol 2 in the “Twilight graphic novel serialisation, “Diary of a wimpy kid: Cabin fever”  and “So brilliantly clever” by Peter Graham – the definitive new book on Juliet Hulme and Pauline Parker’s callous murdering of Honorah Parker – Pauline’s mother – in 1954, NZ. Looking forward to seeing you enjoying them all.

Apps

The library will showcase some ‘pick of the crop’ apps that are incredibly useful, time saving, collaborative and enable sharing – all the buzzwords for studying successfully and intelligently these days. These will begin to appear on the blog and hopefully they will be found by you and utilised. Here’s the first one – Spiderscribe. SpiderScribe is an online mind mapping and brainstorming tool. It lets you organize your ideas by connecting notes, files, calendar events, etc. in free-form maps. You can collaborate and share those maps online – its all in the clouds! There is a 2 min demo that will show you how.

http://www.spiderscribe.net/

  • Capture and organize text notes, files and image, events and locations!
  • You can create private or public maps, collaborate and share with others.
  • The maps are  stored “in the cloud” and can be accessed from anywhere.

Library e-book survey

We would like to find out a bit about e-book reading and how it relates to you… do you read electronic books? What device do you use to read it with? That kind of thing. There is a very short survey (about 5 questions) that we would really like you to do to help us decide what we can best offer at Nayland College library for you. Click here:

YA Book subject matter

Q: What is your opinion on YA book subject matter? Is it too dark for you, or if you read the link to blog, do you agree with YA authors that they all offer HOPE, ideas, the gift of the knowledge that all things will pass and things do get better?
